Explore the wondrous jewels of Jerusalem and its surroundings. Travel up the scenic coast to Caesarea, the 2000-year-old ancient city built to honor Augustus Caesar, and the harbor from which St. Paul was said to have been taken prisoner to Rome – spurring the spread of Christianity. See a wealth of Roman, Byzantine, Arab and Crusader ruins in the area. Continue to Haifa and take in stunning views from Mount Carmel. Visit the prominent Bahai Shrine with its impressive gardens, and peaceful Stella Maris Monastery.
Venture to the desert caves of Qumran, where the Dead Sea Scrolls were found, on the northern shore of the Dead Sea. Take the cable car up Masada – an UNESCO World Heritage Site – where the last stronghold of the Jews during the First Jewish-Roman War in the 1st Century AD was located. Tour the archaeological remains on the plateau and capture panoramic views of the desert below.
Take an excursion to the village of Ein Karem to visit the Church of St. John the Baptist and the Basilica of the Visitation. Continue to Bethlehem to tour the Church of the Nativity, built by Constantine in the 4th Century over the cave traditionally considered to be the birthplace of Jesus.
On departure from Petra, you will drive into the desert to Wadi Rum and explore the area aboard a Bedouin 4×4 jeep. Virtually untouched, Wadi Rum is a stupendous, timeless place, where a maze of monolithic rock formations rises from the desert floor. The area has been the setting for many films since Lawrence of Arabia was filmed on location here over 50 years ago. Continue to Aqaba for your private charter flight to Luxor, Egypt.
Discover ancient Thebes in Luxor and walk the burial grounds of the Valley of the Kings and Queens. En route to Aswan, visit Horus Temple in Edfu, and Temples of Sobek and Horus in Kom Ombo. Once in Aswan, visit the High Dam and the Philae Temple. Sail in a traditional felucca to Kitchner’s Island Botanical Gardens.
Admire the Sphinx and the Great Pyramids of Giza. Enjoy the Sound and Light show at the pyramids from the premiere seating area. View some of the treasures of the Tutankhamun collection at the Egyptian Museum, as well as its Mummy Room or visit the Grand Egyptian Museum once it opens. Wander through the narrow alleyways of the Khan El Khalili Bazaar. Reminisce with fellow travelers and your Tour Manager at a festive farewell party.
Bid farewell to the Middle East as you transfer to the airport for your onward or homeward bound flight.
