Bucharest, Romania & Dubrovnik, Croatia – September 4 – 7 – After our easy flight by private jet, we landed in Bucharest. The capital and largest city in Romania, Bucharest became known as the “Paris of the Balkans” because of its Belle Époque buildings and a reputation for the high life.
Eager to see the what Bucharest has to offer, we began our tour. We visited the Revolution Square and gazed upon the beautiful Royal Palace and Romanian Athenaeum. Along the way we also saw the amazing 17th century Metropolitan Church, the seat of the Romanian Orthodox Church.
As a slight departure from the magnificent architecture of Bucharest, we visited Cismigiu Garden, where there are more than 30,000 trees and plants that were brought in from the Romanian mountains. It is also home to fantastic exotic plants imported from Vienna’s botanical garden and a lake full of locals in rowboats enjoying the scenery.
We also had the chance to visit the magnificent Parliament Palace, a massive building constructed and furnished exclusively with Romanian Materials. Finishing our time in Bucharest, we drove to see more of the picturesque nature of Romania in the Carpathian Mountains of Sinaia. Here we visited the alpine villa, Peles Castle. With over 150 opulent rooms and surrounded by natural beauty, it is easy to see why this was formerly the summer residence of the Romanian family.
Bidding farewell to Romania, we hopped back on our private jet for a quick stop in Dubrovnik, the “Pearl of the Adriatic”, and film location for scenes from the popular TV program, Game of Thrones. Our tour of Stradun brought us to the Franciscan Monastery of the “Order of Friars Minors”, Sponza Palace, Church of St. Blaise, Rector’s Palace, and the Cathedral of the Virgin Mary. The day of sightseeing was made complete when we traveled to the Konavle region to sample some local cuisine.
With the extraordinary experiences we shared in Bucharest and Dubrovnik fresh in our minds, we are all very excited to board our jet to Italy and see what wonders Puglia has in store for us.
