Bilbao & Santiago de Compostela, Spain – September 10 – 11 -Thanks to the freedom of being in control of our own flight paths, we made a brief stop by the city of Bilbao on our way to Santiago De Compostela. This allowed us to visit the iconic Guggenheim Museum and enjoy a meal there. The building itself a masterpiece designed by the world renowned architect Frank Gehry, the Guggenheim is full of works by Spanish and international artists.
Hopping back on to the plane we continued to Santiago De Compostela, the capital of the Galicia region of Spain. With its location on the Way of St. James Catholic pilgrimage route, countless travelers have made their way through this magnificent city throughout centuries.
Strolling through the historic narrow winding streets of Santiago’s Old Town, it is easy to see why it has been deemed a UNESCO World Heritage site. We visited the Cathedral near the main plaza where, legend has it, the remains of St. James the Great were brought for burial. The unbelievable manor house that we visited showed us the beauty of when 16th century architecture and the vivid greens of nature stand hand in hand.
It is hard to believe that we are now moving to our final stop on this journey, France. The amazing sights that we have seen at each stop merely builds our excitement for the French Riviera!
