Bilbao and Santiago de Compostela, Spain – May 28-29, 2017 – On our flight to Santiago de Compostela, our private jet stopped in Bilbao to visit the Guggenheim Museum. The building itself was unbelievable and holds amazing exhibits of works by Spanish and international artists. After lunch and visiting the museum we returned to our jet and continued to the capital of the Galicia region, Santiago de Compostela. After arriving, we settled in at our hotel to get ready for tomorrow’s sightseeing.
In the morning we ventured out on a walking tour of the Old Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, meandering through narrow winding streets where we saw some fantastic historical buildings. We visited the Santiago de Compostela Cathedral, the reputed burial place of St. James the Great. Pilgrims have been traveling the Way of St. James on pilgrimage through Europe since the Middle Ages.
In the afternoon, we went to Pazo de Oca, a palace with a garden so beautiful that it has become known as the “Galician Versailles”. After the palace, we visited Ponte Maceira to walk on the ancient bridge over the Tambre River and enjoyed the beautiful natural scenery.
Tomorrow we are off to France. Click on any photo to start slideshow.
