Kruger National Park – March 19 – 21
After cruising through the air on our private jet to South Africa, we arrived ready to see what the wilds of Africa had to offer. Far from the big buildings and temples of Asia and the lava rock covered islands of the Indian Ocean, we have come to see the “living and breathing” sights of South Africa, the wildlife.
In Johannesburg we boarded a local private charter flight that whisked us away to Sabi Sand Private Reserve adjacent to Kruger National Park. Here, lions, leopards, elephants, and more are free to roam across the fenceless border, and the natural beauty of Africa can truly be experienced.
Our twice daily safari drives took us out to look for the big 5 and other “local residents”. In addition to the thrill of watching to see what might be found around the next curve or stand of trees, we also enjoyed the hot drinks, tasty bites, and cocktails our personable guides brought for refreshments right in the heart of the reserve. Here we could enjoy the vastness of the land and the beauty of the sunsets out in the bush.
At the lodge, our Boulders Suites are havens created of beautiful natural materials with glass walls to let us keep an eye out for passing animals even while relaxing between safaris. Truly a lovely sojourn in the wild, but there are more adventures ahead in the Eastern Mediterranean. We bid farewell to Africa and fly on to the original island of love, and the legendary birthplace of Aphrodite.
