November 14  •  Jerusalem / Amman, JORDAN---Four Seasons Hotel

Bid farewell to Israel this morning as you travel overland via the Allenby Bridge to Amman and your luxury hotel accommodations. This afternoon, tour Amman, the “White City” because all its buildings are of local white limestone. View the Citadel and the Roman Amphitheater. Continue to Jerash, an ancient city boasting an unbroken chain of human occupation dating back more than 6,500 years, and one of the best preserved Roman provincial towns in the world. Wander the colonnaded streets to explore the soaring hilltop temples, spacious public squares and plazas, baths, fountains, and city walls pierced by towers and gates. Meals: BLD

November 15  •  Amman / Petra---Movenpick Petra

Today drive south along the 5,000-year-old Kings´ Highway to Petra, stopping to explore some wondrous sites along the way. Tour the revered holy site of Mount Nebo, where Moses was buried. See the small Byzantine church built by early Christians, and now expanded into a vast complex. Next, visit the city of Madaba. View the Madaba Mosaic Map, an ancient map of Jerusalem and the Holy Land, covering the floor of the Greek Orthodox Church of St. George. The church was built in 1896 AD, over the remains of a much earlier 6th century Byzantine church. The mosaic panel enclosing the Map was originally around 1000 square feet, only about a quarter of which has been preserved. Late afternoon, arrive in the Red Rose City of Petra. It lies on the edges of the mountainous desert of the Wadi Araba, surrounded by towering hills of rust-colored sandstone.  This ancient rose-red city was once the center of the ancient world’s spice and incense routes. Meals: BLD

After breakfast, begin your exciting visit of Petra, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. See the giant red mountains and vast mausoleums of one of the greatest wonders ever wrought by Nature and Man. Wander and hike among the hundreds of elaborate rock-cut tombs with intricate carvings, as well as obelisks, temples, and sacrificial altars. View the massive Nabataean-built, Roman-style theater, which could seat 3,000 people. If you wish to hike up a flight of 800 rock-cut steps, you are rewarded with a view of the impressive Ad-Deir Monastery.
