Mauritius is a volcanic island which lies about 1,200 miles / 1,900 kilometers east of Africa and is a great place for a stopover when going to or from India, Australia, Southern Africa and / or Madagascar. For an island in the middle of nowhere, Mauritius (east of Madagascar) is a remarkably cosmopolitan place. Since first settled about 400 years ago, it has accumulated a diverse collection of people from India, Europe, Africa and China, and reflects multicultural harmony. You will have plenty of time for swimming, fishing or diving and treks through nature preserves as well as visits to temples, museums and markets.

  •  Port Louis

In the capital city of Port Louis visit the Blue Penny Museum for a glimpse into the art and history of Mauritius. Take time to enjoy lunch at the Le Caudan Waterfront and do some shopping. Away from the hustle and bustle of the capital city, visit the botanical garden of Pamplemousses – famous for its plants brought in from all over the world. See the Victoria Amazonica, the largest of water lilies and the Talipot palm that blooms once in 60-100 years and then dies.

  •  Chamarel

A tour to the southwest part of the island takes you to the village of Chamarel, home to the island’s most famous natural wonders – the magnificent Chamarel waterfall and the Seven-Colored Earths. Unique colored earths with their rainbow set of colors evolved from the conversion of basaltic lava to clay minerals. This relatively small area of sand dunes is made of seven distinct colors of sand, and is beautifully carved, creating an effect of earthen meringue. Continue to explore Ganga Talao, a crater lake situated in a secluded mountain area, considered the most sacred Hindu place in Mauritius. Visit the temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, along the Grand Bassin.

Hotel accommodations will be based on your specific travel program, dates, budget and availability at time of booking.
