At the helm of Lakani World Tours is founder and president, Heidi Lakani, a 35-year industry veteran.  Heidi, a longtime leader at Travcoa, worked in virtually every area of the business and traveled to all corners of the globe as the operations manager on their private jet tours. In her role as Vice President of Sales, she worked closely with travel agents and their clients, leading client presentations and events. In 2003, Heidi took the next step, founding Lakani World Tours, to better use her knowledge and experience with travel agents and their clients by providing extraordinary vacations with memories to last a lifetime. She gathered a team of experts to help her achieve that goal, and is able to offer a selection of Escorted Small Group Tours, Custom-Designed Tours and four unique Luxury Private Jet journeys per year.  Heidi makes it her priority to see that each and every Lakani tour is a successful exploration of the world’s history and culture in amazing style so that travelers return home to their travel agents with incredible tales and enthusiasm for their next voyage of discovery.

Erika was born to be in travel. She was raised in Europe and immigrated to America as a young woman. Fresh out of business school, Erika immediately joined Travcoa, the renowned luxury tour operator, where she worked for over forty years in tour planning, operations, and marketing under the legendary Mel Dultz and Kathy McCarty-Carey. She hired travel directors to escort the innovative tours and often traveled along to make sure that every aspect of the program exceeded expectations.  Lakani was delighted to welcome her to the team in 2009.  Erika is the consummate tour operator and Lakani Escorted Small Group Tours are thriving under her management.

Janet McKenzie

Janet’s love of foreign travel led her to start her career as a Travel Consultant in 1980. She later joined the luxury tour operator, Travcoa, where she enjoyed working for over 22 years in all phases of tour planning, operations and management. For 13 years she managed the Private Jet department, overseeing every detail of operations and personally assisting travel agents and their clients in trip preparation.  Janet joined the Lakani team in 2005 and as Director of Operations, she works with Heidi to design and operate the Lakani Luxury Private Jet journeys, as well as customized private jet itineraries for individuals with their friends and families.

Susan’s love of travel started at a young age, listening to stories of her grandparents’ world travels.  It further expanded when she traveled to Chile as a foreign exchange student while still in high school.  Susan has a passion for higher education and holds degrees in Political Science and an MBA. Following a career in banking she decided to pursue her interest in the travel industry and earned a certificate in Travel and Tourism.  Susan worked as a retail travel consultant, making her particularly adept at identifying the needs of our travel agent partners.  Her passion for travel destinations led her to design custom tours for upscale clients.  She continues to volunteer for her local alumni club specializing in student recruiting and scholarship for The Ohio State University.  Lakani is delighted to have Susan in its team of professionals.

Dawn Suart

Dawn started her career in international tourism in 1971, escorting luxury group tours to numerous countries. Over the next two decades, Dawn held the position of Vice President of Operations at two luxury tour operators.  In 1995, Dawn was hired by Travcoa to launch its Independent Travel Department – designing, customizing, and operating personalized travel worldwide. Dawn’s dedication to customers and expertise in worldwide operations has earned her a reputation as a premier authority in luxury travel.   Dawn is a founding member of the Lakani team.

John Webley

John has been traveling all his life.  He was born and raised in East Africa and educated in Kenya, England and the United States. Upon receiving his degree in International Business and Marketing from UCLA in the 1980’s, John embarked on a career in travel and tourism. His family is actively involved with the conservation of wildlife and John focused his efforts on gorillas in Uganda and Rwanda, playing an important role in the development of gorilla tourism.  He worked for two other luxury tour operators, for whom he led many private jet tours. John is thrilled to be associated with the Lakani team and shares his love of not only Africa but other worldwide destinations with travel agents when he is not leading travelers on the Lakani Luxury Private Jet.

Incy was born in Wales and she traveled extensively before landing in Canada where she began her travel career.  In 1975, she opened the Canadian office for Travcoa.  For the next three decades, Incy worked throughout North America promoting luxury tour programs and destinations.  Her extensive knowledge of the world’s fascinating places and her broad understanding of the needs and expectations of both travel agents and travelers make Incy a valuable member of the Lakani team.  Now based in Wales, Incy can be found tending her garden or volunteering with the Salvation Army when she is not traveling the world or visiting agents for Lakani World Tours.

Mary McNamara

Mary started her travel career in the tour and convention department of the Hilton Hotels Corporation in Chicago. In 1974, she joined Travcoa, and worked in all areas of the company before becoming Vice President.  She also had the challenging task of making travel arrangements for Dultz’s unrelenting journeys to establish tourism in remote parts of the world such as Easter Island, Papua New Guinea, Cambodia, Bhutan, Patagonia, Oman, Yemen, Namibia and western Africa. Mary’s experience in tour operations, accounting, and business administration contributes strongly to the success of Lakani World Tours.
