February 11 – 13, 2016 – Singita Private Game Reserve, SOUTH AFRICA — We departed from Johannesburg’s private airport, Lanseria, which made for a very easy and efficient departure via our private jet … and we were quickly whisked north to the main airport near to Kruger/Sabi Sands area. On arrival we transferred to our privately chartered Beechcraft 1900. We were on our way to the fabulous and renowned Singita Private Game Reserve adjoining Kruger National Park. Our 2.5 Hours traveling by private aircraft had saved us approx. 9 hours of long road travel. That’s a huge relief.
Our pictures tell the whole story! The ‘magic of Africa’ excels in this amazing place.
Singita Boulders lodge is our home for three nights. An extraordinary ‘over the top’ African Safari Lodge. Beyond belief is what most say about this place. It is the height of luxury and service excellence. Large spacious private Safari villas with private plunge pools and large spacious viewing decks spread along the Sabi River … a wide sandy river with a constant water supply for the abundant wildlife of this area. This is South Africa’s premier ‘wild kingdom’ … a treasure chest of African animal experiences. Again, ‘beyond belief’ is heard often from our good group.
Safaris are early morning and later afternoon (into early evening). We use three of Singita’s excellent custom designed 4×4 Toyota Landcruisers which are entirely open top for maximum wildlife viewing and photography (and fresh air!!). Each vehicle is guided by a Safari Ranger and a Tracker, each excellent at their work. Wild Africa comes alive for us with these great guides and their expertise. We enjoy exceptional wildlife viewing from ‘minute one’ and all the way through our safari experiences. It’s hot at this time of year here and so the constant breezes of driving around make it entirely pleasant. We are all in awe of this very special place and all its excitements … but this is all made even more special by the people. In fact, in Africa, it’s more often the wonderful people that outshine the amazing wildlife.
Aside from our interactions with the wonderful staff, one of our people experiences at Singita is to drive outside of the private game reserve and visit a nearby Shangaan village. Most of the staff that work at Singita come from this village, Justicia. We are guided through the village by two excellent community members. The village is well laid out with lovely houses. Its Saturday so school is closed but we have several opportunities to meet and interact with children of all ages around the village. Some put on their class dance shows and the village choir serenades us with their amazing rich voices. We visit the Women’s community center where among their beaded jewelry they also make glass ornaments and jewelry from the crushed/recycled bottles from our lodge. I know there are plenty of used wine bottles from our fun visit … did we say how excellent the South African wines are?!?
This has been a most phenomenal start to safari Africa for our group. Singita has excelled in all ways for us. The a la carte dining at our lodge is of international standards. The staff look after our every need, our every whim, and the ambiance here is of bush luxury with little fuss. We are extremely ‘happy campers’. We have made new friends in South Africa, at Singita.
“Inkomo” (Thank You) to you all … BRAVO Singita!
