Nairobi, Kenya – June 3-4, 2017 – Our small group joined together in Kenya amid the great comforts of Nairobi’s Villa Rosa Kempinski, a 5-star city resort. There had been long travels from USA, so this was a kind calm place to relax for a couple of days. Several of our group are longstanding Lakani guests whom we love to see again on our jet tours. Big Thanks to them for their great support in being part of our Lakani family … enthusiasts of travel.
While in Kenya we were able to explore some interesting highlights. The newly renovated and improved National Museum is just a few minutes’ drive from our hotel. Our excellent guide, Maurice, led us through this interesting place. We headed out to Nairobi’s western suburbs at the foot of the Ngong Hills – does ‘Out of Africa’ sound familiar? Yes, we were visiting the former estate lands of Karen von Blixen in “Karen” as the suburb is aptly known.
We had a delicious lunch on the verandah of Tamambo Restaurant, the renovated former storerooms on Karen Blixen’s farm. We were close by to the Giraffe Manor / Center so a brief stop there was a chance to meet the friendly giraffes up close. We finished our day at the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust Conservation for orphaned baby elephants. The David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust is the most successful orphan elephant rescue in the world. Founded by Dr. Dame Daphne Sheldrick in 1977, they celebrate 40 successful years of rescuing and rearing orphan elephants and rhinos. There are currently 29 orphan elephants being cared for and raised. A sizable donation by Lakani to the Trust enable each of our guests to adopt the baby elephant of their choice. This was a memorable and moving visit for us all.
Our welcome dinner at Villa Rosa allowed us to reacquaint and get to know new friends. Soon enough, via VIP facilities away from the hubbub of the big commercial airline terminals, we were boarding our beautiful private jet, a gleaming Challenger 850. Ours was a most enjoyable swift flight eastward across the Indian Ocean to the idyllic islands of Seychelles. A dream of many became our fortunate reality. We had arrived … easily and efficiently.
